Jim started strategic benefits, inc. in July of 1999, having over 16 years of experience with individual and employee benefit sales.
Jim represents the third generation of his family serving in the insurance industry and with having two physicians as grandfathers, considers himself as “The Doctor of Insurance”. His career began in 1983 with Liberty Life Insurance Company, specializing in the marketing of Universal Life products. In 1984, Jim began his brokering / consulting career focusing not only on individual insurance plans but also on employee benefit plans for regional, national, and international employers.
In 1990 Jim joined forces with Corporate Benefits, Inc. and was employed with Willis Corroon from 1996 – 1999 as vice-president of employee benefits where he learned the resources an international and national broker can offer clients. From 2007 -2009 he worked with Healthstat, a company that can improve productivity and lower healthcare costs by delivering wellness and healthcare to the worksite.
Now he brings these resources to the smaller and midsized employer.
Jim is in the process of completing the Certified Employee Benefits Specialists (CEBS) program and the Certified Life Underwriter program (CLU). As a chartered member of the Piedmont Association of Health Underwriters (PAHU), he has served as President, Vice President of Membership, and Past President.
In addition to receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington & Lee University, he was a commissioned Army officer, serving his state and country for over 12 years.
